Scalloway Junior High School sits at the edge of the village of Scalloway in the Shetland Islands. It overlooks a busy, modern harbour which is sheltered from the Atlantic by a plethora of islands and tiny skerries.
The school is a combined nursery, primary, and secondary at present and delivers education to 246 pupils aged from 3-16 years old. The catchment area is rural, widespread, and diverse. Children attending the school generally live in the village itself, on neighbouring islands, small settlements, and in isolated dwellings by the sea or inland.
The values of this traditional Shetland community are also the values that the school promotes. This is a community that values resilience, diversity, citizenship, identity and sustainability, and looks to the school to equip young people with these qualities.
Scalloway Junior High School is a school at the heart of its community and the community is at the heart of the school.
