Rothesay Academy : Intermediate 2
This course is designed to introduce students to the variety of jobs and career opportunities in the financial services sector. Students will become familiar with the key words and terms used in the industry and gain an understanding of the part this sector plays in modern life. Some understanding of the rules and laws dealing with finance will be looked at. One unit will be spent on looking at employability skills.
It is essential that students have contact with the work place as part of this course. This may be by formal placements or in a simulated work environment. Guest speakers or visits to work places can also help with this.
Students will look at the needs and feelings of customers and colleagues. This unit deals with providing a good service to customers and why this is important to companies. The importance of working with others will be studied in a practical setting.
This will include self presentation skills which are very important to people dealing directly with the public.
Students will look at the range of job opportunities there are in the sector including banks, building societies, insurance firms and other financial institutions. Issues such as data protection, consumer protection and money laundering will be touched on.
Students will work on their own personal budgets, and learn about borrowing, debt, savings and credit cards. Some understanding of investments will be covered.
There are no optional units for this course
These are usually National Certificate (NC) courses as a full-time college student. They give students knowledge and skills training which will be certificated with the SQA. They can lead on to HNC, HND and degree courses.
This course, a school/college or school/employer partnership, leads on from the Intermediate 1 course.
Students finishing the Hospitality Intermediate 1 course might naturally wish to progress onto the Intermediate 2 course. For younger students this might be done in later school years, or for the older ones it may be done through a local college. To find your local college please click here.
