Millburn Academy is a six year comprehensive school serving the area of Inverness east of the River Ness and the rural areas to the south of the city. The school has approximately 1030 pupils and eighty three teaching staff.
The school first opened in 1961 as Millburn Junior Secondary School. In 1967 the school name was changed to Millburn Secondary School, showing the direction in which the school was developing. In 1976 the school name was changed to Millburn High School for a short time, but after pressure from parents it was redesignated as Millburn Academy. From 1979 onwards the school began to focus on becoming a six year school and throughout the 1980s developed into a six year secondary school for the present catchment area - Crown, Drakies, Raigmore, Moy, Daviot, and Raigbeg Primary Schools, including pupils living in the area who attend Bishop Eden Primary School and St. Josephs R.C. Primary School.
In January 2007 construction work began on the building of the new Millburn Academy, which is being built on the school's existing playing fields. The ground which the school currently occupies will become the new playing fields.
The school motto, 'Strive to Achieve,' was adopted by the original staff of the Academy when it opened in 1961.
