Kinlochbervie High School is a small remote secondary school which was officially opened by HRH Prince Charles on the 22 September 1995 with twenty five S1 and S2 pupils. A new year group was added every year and the school now offers all six years of secondary education to the children aged twelve to eighteen living in the communities of northwest Sutherland.
The school has approximately 65 pupils and 15 teaching staff. The school pupils come from the associated primary schools: Achfary, Durness, Scourie, and Kinlochbervie.
In addition to high quality purpose built classrooms, the outside grounds contain a floodlit all weather playing pitch and a pupil built garden. The school's location is ideal for a range of outdoor including hill walking and water sports. The school itself faces Loch Innes and has been used by pupils for kayaking and sailing.
The school is proud of its community links. All facilities are available for out of hours community use. Particularly popular are the floodlit pitch, the games hall, and the well equipped fitness room. The building is also home to the Community Education Office and the North West Training Centre. The former supports local community groups and the latter provides a variety of evening and Saturday adult classes. These classes have ranged from computer training to art workshops to kayaking instruction.
