Kingussie High School

Ruthven Road
Kingussie
Inverness-Shire
PH21 1ES

Kingussie High School's current building dates from 1970, however records suggest that there has been a school in Kingussie (or the ancient parish of Ruthven) since the time of the Columban missionaries, and although today a smallish school by national standards, the school maintains a long and proud academic record which precedes the 1872 Education Act.

Kingussie High School is situated by the River Spey and looking out towards the Cairngorms. The school has forty four teaching staff with a current roll 420 pupilsaged twelve to eighteen from a very wide area - from Drumochter to Aviemore, from Laggan to Kincraig. Kingussie  The school has six associated primary schools: Aviemore, Alvie (at Kincraig), Dalwhinnie, Gergask (at Laggan), Kingussie and Newtonmore,

Kingussie High aims to create as happy and productive a school as possible, educating pupils in the widest sense whatever their ability. The school's gaelic motto 'Gu Dichiollach' means 'With Diligence.'

The facilities include two playing fields (one floodlit), and a modern technology block.

A very wide programme of extra-curricular activities has been in operation covering many sports and leisure activities.

While in general the school curriculum is in essence common to most Scottish schools there are a number of unique features. For example, pupils receive a grounding in both French and German as well as a very thorough induction in ICT skills to give a solid basic computer expertise. Having a particular interest generating a European and international awareness which colours the curriculum in many ways, the school enjoys an excellent link with the Erich Klausner Gymnasium in Adenau in the Rheinlandpfalz area of Germany, and this has involved many successful pupil exchanges and other joint activities.
