Ardnamurchan High School is a completely new comprehensive school for the communities in Ardnamurchan and Morvern which first opened its doors in August 2002.
The school’s catchment area includes Kilchoan, Acharacle, Strontian, Lochaline, Ardgour and (part of) Achaphubuil primary schools. Most pupils are within daily travelling distance of the school. However a small number of pupils from Kilchoan and Drimnin areas board in the small residence. In the past these pupils attended three secondary schools - Lochaber High School, Mallaig High School, Tobermory High School.
Since its inception, Ardnamurchan High has been a community school with a real focus on meeting a wide range of educational needs incorporating community links and involvement wherever possible.
One of the region's 'Twenty First Century Schools,' Ardnamurchan High has excellent information technology resources, as well as a modern purpose built school. The school has approximately 130 pupils and seventeen staff. Pupils benefit from smaller than average class sizes, more teacher contact, and a curriculum that is tailored to their individual needs from ages eleven to eighteen.
The school is also a new community school, and under the banner of 'The Sunart Centre' is a focal point for a wide range of community based events. The Àrainn Shuaineirt Management Committee (ASMC), which is a voluntary community group, oversee the community access and use of the building. In addition, the Lochaber Outreach Learning Centre and Community Education have a presence in the building.
