G & A Barnie was established in Wick, Caithness, by Alex and Gordon Barnie in 1985. Since this time they have earned an enviable reputation for their expertise, high quality personal service, and the completion of contracts within periods specified. They undertake and complete many large and small electrical projects from Shetland and Orkney in the north, Skye and the Western Isles, to Glasgow in the south. 

They now operate from various centres throughout the north including Wick, Inverness, Kirkwall, Stornoway and Elgin.

Premier quality workmanship and personal attention are characteristics of G&A Barnie. These qualities together with the company policy that no contract it too big or too small and that distance is no object, have ensured a steady rise in demand for our company's services.
 
The company offer CAD services, airfield and emergency lighting installation and servicing. The company also install and service CCTV, access control, fire alarms and intruder detection systems via their subsidiary company Bar-Tec. Bar-Com another subsidiary offers integrated communications solutions to local businesses.
 
As well domestic contracts of all kinds the company have completed many large commercial contracts including schools, hospitals, airports, offices, theatres and cinemas, shops, police stations and libraries.
 
The company regularly recruit school and college leavers by advertising in the local press.   They work with SECTT in recruiting and training the right people to ensure that the current company high standards continue in the future.    The company are very interested in the Skills for Work courses.
 
They see value in young people learning employability skills but also are keen for applicants to have good practical skills to allow them undertake the complex tasks required in modern electrical systems. They feel that pupils choosing engineering skills courses will be able to see if this is the kind of work they really wish to go on to do.  References from college staff will be more realistic and be able to say  if applicants have the right approach and practical dexterity.
