Dounreay is Scotland’s largest clean up and demolition project.
Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of UKAEA, is decommissioning the former nuclear reactor research site under contract to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
Decommissioning Dounreay is recognised internationally as one of the most complex nuclear clean up challenges in the world. Today, Dounreay is a site of construction, demolition and waste management - all of it carried out by a new generation of staff skilled in nuclear clean up.
Dounreay’s commitment to the future of our young people is evidenced by our thriving apprentice training scheme supported by DSRL and local contractor companies on site. Dounreay also offers sponsorship to individuals to undertake selected academic courses at The North Highland College in order to encourage the development of engineering skills in various disciplines and to help prevent local skills shortages in the future.
